ABOUT  GARY  ALLYN

Gary Allyn is a radio veteran who's air-work, production talents, and programming expertise have left their mark on many radio stations and other related venues through-out North America since he first entered broadcasting at WING Radio in Dayton, Ohio in 1955. Gary's simplistic, yet innovative approach has been heard on such other stations as: WSAI, WZIP, WPFB & WCPO in Cincinnati; WMET, WAME, and WMYQ in Miami; WPLO, Atlanta; KIMN & KTLK in Denver; KONO, KITE San Antonio; KCBQ, KDEO, XTRA, XHIS, & XHERS, KSEA, KOGO & KEZL(KSDO-FM) in San Diego; KWIZ, & KIQQ, L.A. Metro; KOIL AM/FM, Omaha; WIFE AM/FM, Indianapolis; KISN, Portland, OR.

Gary Allyn has been an on-air talent of some note,("The Leader Of The Little People" and "The World’s Tallest Midget"); a Production Director, Music Director, Program Director, Operations Manager, National P.D. , a Consultant, and has worked for such radio companies as: Charter-Bartell, Scripps-Howard, Par, Noble, Consolidated Sun-Ray, Mission Broadcasting, Plough, Star, Great Trails, McKinnon, Combined Communications, Behan and Booth-American.

Gary has worked various formats: Personality, Top 40, Jazz, AOR, Country, Classic Rock, Oldies, AC, Nostalgia(Big Band), Beautiful Music, and Disco. His Emphasis is on Oldies & Nostalgia, Jazz Standards, as-well-as Adult Demographics programming. Gary’s instinctive knowledge of ALL forms of Music is without peer. Gary loves them all: Bluegrass and the Blues, to Gospel to Gershwin, The Lovin’ Spoonful to the Louvin Brothers, from Ella to Elvis, Basie to Bocelli, Sinatra to Sting, Celine Dion to Dion and The Belmonts, Asleep At The Wheel to Frank Zappa. Now, THAT’s A to Z !!

Gary Allyn's Consulting firm guided stations in the Cleveland, Kansas City, Washington D.C., Tucson, & Denver radio markets. Small markets too, like: Modesto, CA; Akron,OH; and Lamar, Colorado. All achieving lofty and/or desired goals, utilizing time-tested basic broadcast principles & fundamentals.

Additionally, Gary owned an operated "Top Spots", a recording studio and voice-over school; during which time he wrote, voiced and produced thousands of commericals and voice overs. Gary also co-owned an advertising agency(California Advertising). He also was a booking agent for many top acts which included: Jimi Hendrix, The Beachboys, George Jones, James Brown, The Woody Herman, Buddy Morrow, Ray Anthony & Tex Beneke Big Bands, Neil Diamond, The Sir Douglas Quintet, Sunny and The Sunliners, Buffalo Springfield, The Who, The Dick Clark Cavalcade Of Stars, Sam Cooke, The Five Americans, Paul Revere and The Raiders, Andy Kim, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Billy Joe Royal, Bobby Vinton, Canned Heat, Spencer Davis Group, Bobby Vee, Andy Williams and Henry Mancini.

Gary also owned a record company & label: "LYN" Records, and later became Chief Announcer and music director for the second all-album station in America that broadcast in multi-plex stereo in 1957,-the license was #2 ! It was at this AM/FM combo, that in the Fall of 1958, Gary be-friended the great social comic genius-Lenny Bruce. Through their friendship, Lenny put a picture of Gary and Lenny together on the back of Bruce’s Fantasy album: "Togetherness" or "I’m Not A Nut-Elect Me". It’s a Classic album, and a classic photo!

Gary also co-hosted local TV "Bandstand" dance & music shows while working in San Antonio, Texas.

Gary is credited with being among the very first to air the "Cash Call" & "Hi-Lo" contests, The "Millionaire" contest, "Winnit Weekends"; and he, along with Neil Ross, wrote, voiced & produced the first 3-hour Beatles documentary: "The Long and Winding Road", and other "Specials" for Radio. He programmed what was to be the fore-runner to "Classic Rock" or all AOR album stations.

Jingles ?

Some of Gary Allyn’s radio jingles are still among the best ever aired. He worked with PAMS, TM, Tobe Arnold, Pepper-Tanner, CRC and many others; producing hundreds of innovative themes, ID’s & stagings masterpieces.

And of course, Gary and Neil produced over 90 episodes of what has been called by some: a "Cult Classic".….the radio comedy series and serial: (farout) "THE ADVENTURES OF THE O.B. RANGER", which was later released on vinyl double L.P. and then on CD. Mr. "G." has long had a flair for comedy, writing material for Woody Woodbury, Herky Stiles, and even some comedic suggestions and "bits" for the late Lenny Bruce.

While at KONO in San Antonio, Gary "booked" the first U.S. appearance of "The Rolling Stones" in 1964. Gary also "booked" to perform at his Record Hops during intermissions such acts as: Michael Nesmith(before becoming one of "The Monkees"), Billy Joe Royal, Gene Hughes and The Casinos( "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" fame), Carl Dobkins Jr., Sunny& The Sunliners, Dale Wright, Doug Sahm, Andy Kim, Kool and The Gang, and a young Conway Twitty.

Gary operated for twelve years "Play-By-Play Sports Fantasies", 5 minute audio cassettes & CD’s making a "hero" out of the tape/CD recipient in a last minute miracle finish- complete with authentic background sounds. Among the many satisfied customers who received G.A.’s Sports Fantasies are: Bill Cosby, Ted Turner, Mario Cuomo, Johnny Mathis, John Ashcroft, plus many Major League and NFL owners(Dallas Cowboys’ Jerry Jones & Cleveland Indians’ Richard Jacobs), David Letterman, The Gaylords, The Mayors of San Francisco and Denver, Mervyn Morris(founder of Mervyn’s Department Stores), Ex-FBI Director William Webster, and Knight Ridder Newspaper CEO’s.

Gary Allyn was a Speech, Radio-TV & Drama major at Ohio University, with a Certificate in Radio-TV Arts
from Cincinnati College of Music, and he was a two-year Radio-TV Specialist in the 4th U.S. Army Headquarters’ Information Section, where Gary produced and wrote many radio shows for distribution, while conducting a myriad of "Home-Town Interviews". Also, he produced a one-hour TV variety special showcasing top Army talent.

GARY ALLYN, with over 40 years in broadcasting and its related fields, still believes in being entertaining and informative, having honesty, integrity and believability while working professionally. True to his Midwest "roots", Gary always relies on a Common-Sense, "Gut-Feel" approach in all that he does. But above all, his objectives are to improve each product and each radio station’s quality of on-air sound, it’s listenership, and it’s revenue producing potential. Just as there are so-called "Natural Athletes"-born to do what God has given them to do; so, too, is Gary Allyn a NATURAL- born to be A broadcaster.
