For those new to these fearless crime fighters, or whose minds have
grown foggy over the years, here's some history on The O.B. Ranger
and Indian ( as best as we can recall it) :
The O.B.Ranger was born in a small but adequate camper van in upper Sunset Cliffs(near Ocean Beach, CA). He was the first and only son of Oscar and Bertha Ranger. A precocious child, O.B. always remembered what his Father told him.."rutabaga,...eat lots of rutabaga.." Then, his Mother took care of him after his Father passed away(from chronic rutabagitis)..she was a good provider, and even worked nights as a Grunion runner just to help get O.B. through school. O.B.'s first experience with the law came early, when he used to sit around home playing with a toy sheriff's badge, instead of playing baseball or going surfing with the neighborhood kids. Then on his 21st birthday, he went looking for a shiny badge. Determined to do good, he stumbled into Ranger Headquarters, whereupon, Chief Gus Stoppo-in need of recruits- hired O.B. as a "rookie". It was on his first "beat" that O.B. ran into a cigar store wooden Indian...this Indian, rather than wooden, turned out to be real...a graduate from Yale, yet! This Indian chap was named (strangely)-"Indian" by his parents. They chose the name after an old motorcycle they used to ride. Since Indian was a college graduate, he noticed O.B.'s propensity for mispronouncing words. In particular, "Hippie" terminology, which the new Ranger thought he must know in order to stop all illegal and nefarious goings on in the little "head" hamlet of Ocean Beach. He also thought "FAR OUT, GROOVY, AND OUTASIGHT! was proper "Hippie Terminology", and that it would get him close to the Ocean Beach resident named: Panama Red...who turns out to be the ringleader, all-around bad person, and focal point for all illegal and nefarious goings-on in Ocean Beach. It's been many years hence, and O.B. still has not caught his pesky Arch Enemy, who always seems to get the "upper"hand(if you know what we mean)...The Ranger's pursuit has become an obsession now, as he and faithful companion Indian(once again, if you know what we mean) have taken up residence in a secret Sunset Cliffs cave; and nightly they raid the dwellings of Ocean Beach. The Ranger on his swift steed and stud horse "Sylvia", and Indian, riding his pet Pinto named "Ford", are both searching for that elusive "dude" Panama Red...hoping to return Ocean Beach into the swell surfing community it once was. With this background in mind, we hope you'll enjoy some of the best episodes of: "THE O.B. RANGER"... In the immortal words of our Hero: "Hi-Yo Sylvia,..Awa-a-y!!! "
